EVERYDAY STORIES

Your bank is calling

An urgent call. An account supposedly at risk. Would you recognize the signs before you act?

An older adult on the phone with a call that seems to come from the bank

01

The scene

The phone rings. They know your name. "There's a problem with your account — we need to secure it right away." They ask for a code, a card number, something to "confirm." You're afraid of losing your savings. You want to be helpful.

02

In the room

On stage, the character wavers — almost gives in. Around the room, heads nod: "That happened to me." Then we walk through the trap together, gently, like neighbours comparing notes.

03

The right habits

  1. 01

Your bank doesn't ask for that

It won't ask for your PIN or personal details over the phone like this — not ever.

  2. 02

    Hang up, then call back

Dial the number on the back of your card, or the one you've used before.

  3. 03

    Take your time

Urgency is the scammer's favourite tool. A real bank can wait while you check.

Keep these in mind

  • Hang up.
  • Call the real number.
  • Take your time.

04

Same scene, different ending

People hold on to the fear of "losing the account" — and the calm of watching the scene replayed: hang up, verify, breathe.

Almost giving something away doesn't make you foolish. These people play on panic. The right moves can be learned.
